Late in March this year, FedEx Express, a subsidiary of the world’s largest express shipping company FedEx Corp, announced that it would be partnering with aviation startup Elroy Air to develop an autonomous hybrid electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) air cargo system. Termed the Chappral, the eVTOL cargo drone is expected to have the capacity to transport cargo pods weighing 300-500 pounds over a distance of nearly 300 miles, with full end-to-end autonomous operations at both flight and ground level.

Its increasing use in various vehicular applications, such as active and passive safety, infotainment, body electronics, and advanced driver assistance systems, contributes to its rapid market expansion worldwide, including in India.
Ukraine currently supplies more than 70% of the world’s neon gas, while Russia is the world’s largest producer of palladium and the third-largest supplier of nickel. Further upheavals in the already strained supply chains of these three critical raw materials will affect the supply and production of semiconductor chips, electric vehicle (EV) batteries, and catalytic converters. This, in turn, will mean production delays, longer waiting times, and possibly, higher vehicle prices.
Consumer electronics giant and China’s leading smartphone maker, Xiaomi has become the latest in a long line of non-automotive companies – Sony, Foxconn, Apple, Alphabet, and Baidu, among them – to throw its hat into the automotive ring. The China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) estimates total passenger EV sales to have reached about 3 million at the end of 2021. Moreover, penetration rates are on track to reach 20% this year.
