Around 2.3 million women are reported to be diagnosed with breast cancer and causing 685,000 deaths globally in 2020. There has been a surge in mammography screenings worldwide over the years due to high prevalence of breast cancer amongst women. Mammography equipment are largely used by hospitals and imaging facilities to diagnose breast cancer and the equipment are considered as the gold standard for breast cancer screening. Organized population-based breast cancer screening has been able to lower breast cancer-associated mortality and has been adopted rapidly by screenings facilities in emerging countries. However, breast screening programs are proven to miss 15% and 35% of cancers due to human error or the lesions not easily visible to the radiologist. Therefore, there has been increase in considering AI-based breast imaging solutions to address this need-gap.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) – based solutions are used for screening mammography to reduce variability among radiologists and improve breast cancer detection rates. In recent years, AI-powered breast imaging solutions are being offered alongside mammography systems to improve breast cancer detection, and the offerings are being implemented in routine screenings.
