With the growing legalization of adult recreational and medicinal cannabis, there is an increasing need for rigorous and accurate analytical testing to assure consumer safety. This has increased the demand for analytical testing instruments. Analytical instrumentation applications include regulatory compliance testing, product manufacturing, quality control, and laboratory automation solutions. A variety of analytical instruments and techniques are used in cannabis testing applications, including gas chromatography, liquid chromatography, gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS), liquid chromatography-mass spectroscopy (LC-MS), inductively-coupled plasma mass spectroscopy (ICP-MS), and X-ray diffraction spectroscopy. Among these, key analytical techniques for cannabis testing are liquid chromatography and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry. However, these methods have a high cost of ownership and require sample production and extensive training for operation. Infrared spectroscopy, on the other hand, an alternative testing method, is more in demand than some other analytical techniques since it does not need sample production and is not time-consuming.
