There is general agreement that non-medical factors impact 80% of healthcare outcomes. This metric represents both the serious challenges and huge opportunities to build solutions that require more than pills and medical procedures. Social determinants of health (SDOH) provide a comprehensive and holistic picture of a patient.

The report focuses on the future growth potential to deliver the healthcare needs based on data-driven social determinants. As the world emerges from the global pandemic there has been a renewed interest in using SODH as a component of a patient’s medical history.

Despite a long-term awareness of SDOH, the concept is at an early stage of its large-scale deployment. Frost & Sullivan estimated that by the end of 2020, 40% of the US health systems and commercial payers have utilized "social determinant" data of some type in making risk assessments, patient outreach, and business decisions.
